The world’s largest social networking site, Facebook, has launched its internet.org Innovation Challenge in Africa. The project aims to support and recognize outstanding individuals or companies that are promoting education and economic empowerment through the provision of internet-based solutions.
The challenge will be in two categories; Learning/Education and Economic Empowerment with the sum of U.S $150,000 going to the app, website or services that is judged to be the best out of both categories.
In addition to that, Each Innovation Challenge Award winner will be eligible to receive up to U.S $80,000 US worth of tools and services from FbStart which is a program designed by Facebook to help early stage mobile startups build and grow their apps.
Two apps would also be carting away U.S $50,000 in another segment of the awards called the Impact Award; one app from each of the two categories would be selected from each of the two categories for this purpose, bringing the total number of awards to four (4).
