Our Long Run Strategy
StartUpNigeria is on a mission to fulfill entrepreneurial dreams, reshape and develop the ecosystem for entrepreneurship in Nigeria. With a young population, (65% of citizens being under 35 years of age), and low level of employment, Nigeria needs to cultivate high impact entrepreneurs to spur job creation as well as making entrepreneurship a viable option for the youth. The start-up ecosystem in Nigeria is currently geared towards technology, which is great; however it is important to develop all other industries as the growth in one economic sector can complement growth in another.
The current situation in Nigeria is one whereby entrepreneurs are struggling to navigate the business minefield individually, this makes the task daunting and creates a barrier that only few people can overcome, albeit at a high cost and with great difficulty. We believe that if Nigerians come together to form communities, a database which addresses the issue of access to information, resources, funding and opportunities can be generated for the benefit of many. The focus is on reducing barriers, unlocking opportunities and most importantly creating jobs in Nigeria. One of our objectives is to promote transparency in Nigeria, by providing complete and accurate information. This will enable us achieve a degree of transparency, especially with Nigeria being ranked as one of the most difficult place to do business in.
Thus, StartUpNigeria has put together a four-point agenda to influence and increase the success of entrepreneurs in Nigeria.

For the purpose of building a comprehensive platform that is accessible and efficient for its users, the key activities are divided into four groups:
- Resource Centre: A startup resource centre for all industry and market information, regulation of tax laws, business guides, research reports, training opportunities, business toolkit and much more, specific to Nigeria. This is to equip entrepreneurs with the information and knowledge required to start and grow their business ventures.
- Community Development: Entrepreneurs and other users can register to access a discussion forum created for gathering information and getting advice from other users and our professionals. We would also be organizing events all over the country to create networking opportunities for members and make the movement more visible and memorable. Start-ups would be able to connect to mentors and experienced professionals in relevant fields with the aid of our partners and patrons. This is about getting people together to create strategies for development in markets and industries.
- Business Showcase: Inspiration is key for entrepreneurship even as we learn from the experiences of others who have built their own businesses with both positive and negative outcomes. This is part of educating our audience on the various strategies and paths that are available to them. Sharing experiences from people who have gone through the start-up process would lead to more open conversations about entrepreneurship as a viable option for Job seekers in Nigeria. Small business is the bedrock of any economy that intends to have sustainable growth, thus the need to campaign for more SMEs in the economy.
- Campaign: StartUp Nigeria is developing a platform for start-ups to join the development drive in Nigeria, for that to happen, a basic level of awareness and support is needed to spur on the entrepreneurs. We are the facilitators and cheerleaders for every business in Nigeria and those intending to venture into job creation in the country. Through our events, including StartUP Nigeria Week, Innovate and IGNITE we hope to be able to bring awareness to a sector that demands urgent attention.
