Philip Obaji is an indigene of Obubra Local government Area in Cross River State. The 2004 Marine Biology graduate of the University of Calabar is the Founder/Executive Director, 1 GAME Campaign- a non-profit organization that promotes football without violence amongst the youths and campaigns for basic education for disadvantaged children. He oversees a team of over 100 volunteers, ensuring that the project makes as much impact as possible.
Philip has been very active in advocating for basic primary education in the Niger Delta region and recently concentrated his efforts on the Almajiri children in North-East Nigeria, a region where Islamist militant group, Boko Haram fights against western education and attacks those in support of it. He believes the quality education should be made accessible to all in the country and that every child at the very least should complete the Universal Basic Education as he sees education as an effective tool in combating violence and poverty.
The 1-Game initiative has recorded over 100,000 signups on its platform, has enjoyed support and backing from notable personalities like Hip-hop duo P-Square, former Nigeria senior national football team coach Samson Siasia, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Aminu Maigari and some members of NFF Executive Committee and popular Jamaican born musician, Shaggy.
In January 2011, Philip was elected into the Executive Committee of the Cross River State Football Association in January 2011 and later appointed Chairman of the Association’s Media and Marketing Committee and a 2014 winner of the Future Africa Awards prize in Education.
