Tucked away in the central parts of the garden city of Port Harcourt is the city’s first technology hub – Focus hub. The tech hub has been on the news lately for the different number of programs and initiatives the hub consistently churns out but what a lot of you may not know about are the personalities behind the ever bustling hub. Enter, Godson Ohuruogu;
Godson Ohuruogu is the Co-founder of FocusHub Nigeria, a social innovation and technology entrepreneurship hub based In Port-Harcourt a city in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.
Focushub has a mandate to create sustainable business models dedicated to solving development challenges faced in the Niger Delta.
Through Focushub, Godson has been working with young people and entrepreneurs across the state to build viable startups and to encourage technology and social innovation development.
Focus hub has a long term strategy to;
1.Incubate and grow 25 Technology startups across Niger Delta in the first 2 years creating 125 jobs and another 75 in another 3 years with a total of 375 jobs over a period of 5 years.
2.Support 1000 SMEs/startups across Niger Delta through mentoring, market linkages, training intervention and business development services to generate and sustain 5,000 jobs with an estimated turnover of a $1B in 5 years.
3.Employ the use of ICT to provide creative and innovative solutions to social and environmental challenges experienced in the Niger Delta.
4.Encourage Niger Delta female participation in technology.
5.Develop digital skills in 4,000 young people between the ages of 18-40 over the next 5 years ; hence empowering them to be self-reliant.
Godson works at the intersection of technology, business, entrepreneurship and development. He is passionate about the youths of Niger Delta and how to economically empower them.
He also has experience working on a number of SME/Startup Development programs such as; the FGN/DFID YOUWIN (Youth Enterprise with Innovation in Nigeria) program, The PIND-Chevron Market linkage program among many others.
Godson holds an MBA degree from the University of Leeds in the UK and a Bsc in Industrial and Production Engineering from University of Ibadan. He is an SMEtoolkit trainer (an Innovation of IFC and IBM), a certified Nesta Creative toolkit trainer ( NestaUk and British Council), Picking Sound Company(PSC) and Company Diagnostic (CD) consultant (PIND-Chevron and Development Alternative DAI).
He sits of the board of a number of startups such as rentaboss.com.ng, swatify.com and xchangea.com, etc. Godson is a public speaker and life coach and very passionate about helping people reach their goals.
