The Nigeria Information Communication Technology Reporters Association (NITRA) will be putting together a seminar with the theme “Foreign Direct Investment: An Impetus to Achieving Ubiquitous Broadband Penetration.” The seminar is scheduled to take place on the 28th of August, 2015 at Westown Hotels, Ikeja Lagos.
The event is being sponsored by Samsung Electronic West Africa, Galaxy Backbone and MTN Nigeria with support from the National Information Technology Development Agency of Nigeria (NITDA), NCS, Institute of Software Practioners of Nigeria (ISPON) and the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) amongst others.
The seminar also aspires to attract all stakeholders, industry leaders and regulators in Nigeria’s ICT industry to address and deliberate on ways to deepen the inflow of investments into Nigeria’s ICT sector. Panel sessions at the seminar will focus on topical issues that range from operational activities, regulatory activities to investment potentials and impediments to the current process of attracting further investment into the industry.
Seminar keynote speakers include MTN Nigeria and Galaxy Backbone, with the former examining the imperatives of Federal Direct Investments (FDIs) for increased development in the ICT industry focusing on broadband while the latter will give a talk on its activities in the area of e-Governmental strategy. Samsung will also be seen leading a session on innovation in mobile devices, capacity building and skills acquisition.
In a press statement issued by the organizing body, Mr.Emma Okonji, the President of the Association speaking on the importance of the seminar says;
“It is our belief that a forum such as this will make us contribute to the development of ICT industry and would create a meeting point for both private and public sector stakeholders and experts to dialogues as well as being a melting point for cross fertilization of their ideas toward contributing to the policy roadmap to furthering universal access to ICT in the country.”
