The 21st of August 2015, saw Start Innovation Hub playing host to the Google Developers Group Uyo. Participants were treated to a whole day’s worth of networking, brainstorming and skill building exercises. “Hacking Google Maps API on Android for Social Good” was the topic of the day with Gideon Ewa and Uduak Essien as facilitators. Both personalities are well known authorities on Google Maps API which they employed in the creation of a location aware app that won 2nd prize in NASA International Space Apps Challenge Nigeria.
The event also witnessed a turnout of 13 persons, two of which were female. Speaking to Startup Nigeria, Hanson Johnson the founder of Start Innovation Hub says the event was geared towards “making the community cloud ready with their startup ideas while ensuring their apps meet international standards and specifications”
He also told Startup Nigeria that Start Innovation Hub would be looking forward to hosting four more events by GDG Uyo that are scheduled to take place between now and the 19th of September, 2015. He also said the upcoming workshops will be centered around Android, Material Design, Google App Engine and Google Cloud Endpoints.
GDG Uyo is an open and non-profit group of techies who are Google technology enthusiasts. Their membership is open to anyone interested in using Google technology to create local solutions with global impact.
