A nation without a good science and technology platform will suffer a lot of setbacks in terms of growth and development. The world as we know it is fast evolving at a very rapid pace. Every day scientists are churning out new innovations. ICT is a branch of science and technology that has contributed greatly to the new advancements being recorded all over the world today. Crede & Mansell (1998) are of the opinion that for sustainable development to take place in any developing country there must be a strong ICT presence in such country.

It is true that Nigeria has taken great steps in the last five years to making sure that they are not left out of this fast moving train. Nigeria has recorded significant growth in ICT but sadly less the sector is still as one were males enjoy dominance. Somehow in this part of the world there is this belief that the world of ICT is a males-only area. In developing countries, women are breaking the barrier of science and technology, coming up with new revolutionizing ideas and products that change our way of thinking and helps make our daily tasks easier. One of such ladies is a Ugandan native by name Dr. Dorothy Okello who won the award for Africa’s first digital woman of the year in a program organized by Ada Awards who aim is to recognize women who are doing exceptionally well in the world of ICT globally. Our very own Toke Makinwa who just recently got certified as a youtube star.

These and more are just a tip of the iceberg in regards to what women can do in ICT if given proper encouragement and motivation. This is why Focushub has decided to take ICT awareness for young girls down to secondary schools. We believe that with training and encouragement we would be building a generation of young ladies in ICT who will be making waves all over the world. They plan on offering mentoring services to young girls who are interested in pursuing careers in ICT. This they believe will give a big boost to capacity building in Nigeria and Africa at large.

Focushub would appreciate the efforts of individuals, schools and corporate bodies who will want to partner with them on this project. They strongly believe that nation building is a collective effort because the government can only do so much for us as a nation. For further information and enquiries focushub can reached at info@focushub.net or call 08180187070. Let us work together to put our dear country on the global ICT map.
