A couple of days ago we reported the move of Aniedi Udo-Obong from Afro to Google, news reaching us today has it that the board of Afro has offered his position to Tayo Onadipe. Tayo is now the Acting General Manager.
He is no newcomer to the startup as Tayo previously held the position of Chief Operating Officer at the company. The company hopes that with Tayo at the helm of affairs, the company would be able to “accelerate its growth trajectory and build aggressively on the momentum” they’ve gained so far.
Afro had this to say in a statement that was issued;
“The position in which we find ourselves today is an exciting one; we have a great product on the market that is being refined and improved almost daily by our super-talented technology team, and we have the right team whose combination of expertise, passion and innovation will make for a compelling 2016. We are all braced for hard work, and the successes that will come with it.”
This is coming on the heels of rumours of Uber’s expansion to two major cities in Nigeria, a situation which would see Tayo coming up with strategies to match its foreign competitor if the startup is to remain relevant in the game.
His predecessor was quite instrumental in pulling Afro out of the trenches, here’s hoping that Tayo can and would sustain that rhythm if not set a few milestones of his own.
